JOHN BREED
John3 was born in Lynn, Mass. the 28 Jan.1662 where he grew to manhood. John3 moved to Stonington, New London, Conn. where he became the tenth settler. Allen2's will gives John3 only Ten Shillings and that portion already given. Possible that portion was money to buy land in Stonington.
John3 purchased land from Gershom Palmer, the father of his future
wife, Mercy Palmer. Mercy's mother was called Lady Anna because of
the sweetness of her disposition and the dignity of her presence. Her maiden name was Ann Dennison. She was the daughter of George Dennison and Ann Burrowdell.
Mercy Palmer born ca.1668 in Stonington. She married John3 Breed 8 Jan.1690 at Stonington. Mercy died at Stonington 28 Jan.1752. John had died the year before. They are both buried in Wequitoquock burial place 2.5 miles from Stonington, Conn.
A blue slate tombstone was erected in 1772 by six of John and Mercy’s children, which reads: “In memory of a pious pair this stone is erected here: Mr. John Breed and his wife, Mercy, who lived together in ye marriage state in a most religious manner about 64 years and then deceased, leaving a number of offspring, he in 1751 about 90 years of age and she in 1752 about 83 years.”
